Expedite your work with these Gmail keyboard Shortcuts
First things first -
Go to Gmail Settings (hit the gear button you find at the top right corner of the inbox page) & turn on your keyboard shortcuts by choosing 'keyboard shortcuts on' - by default it is 'Off'. Then save the changes (you can find this at the bottom of the same page).
This will enable you to start using all the keyboard shortcuts while using gmail.
To get the complete list of all the gmail keyboard shortcuts, hit on any white space in your gmail 'Shift' and '?' simultaneously. However, in this article only the most often & widely used shortcuts are presented. To find more keyboard shortcuts that help cater to your requirement hit 'shift' & '?' simultaneously on any white space in your gmail.
Here we go -
- For composing an email just tap 'C' alphabet; to compose a new email in a new tab hit 'D'.
- to sift through emails or search gmail just tap '/' (slash icon). This will take you to the search box present at the top middle of the page
- to search chat contacts, tap 'q'
- to open 'More' actions menu hit '.' (period icon)
If you want to Go to - (alphabets to be used, need not be used simultaneously)
- Inbox - use - 'G' & 'I'
- All mail - use - 'G' & 'A'
- Drafts - 'G' & 'D'
- Sent emails - 'G' & 'T'
- Starred emails - 'G' & 'S'
- Contacts - 'G' & 'C'
- Label - 'G' & 'L'
Selecting emails (alphabets to be used, must be used simultaneously)
- To select all conversations use '*'(star icon) & 'A' and to deselect all of them hit '*'(star icon) & 'N'
- To select all Read conversations use '*' (star icon) & 'R' and to select all unread conversations hit '*' (star icon) & 'U'
- To select all starred conversations hit '*'(star icon) & 'S' and to select all unstarred conversations hit '*'(star icon) & 'T'
