Common errors to avoid in Resume
I've had the chance of going through the resumes of applicants from freshers to those who are very senior in organisations, who were looking out for change. I'm here providing some of the very common errors committed by the applicants that can be avoided from the experience I've gathered.
The Resume is the first Point of Contact with the recruiter in most of the situations. Remember, that the recruiter could be going through hundreds of resumes to fill the position which is manual & tiring. Hence it is far important to present the resume in a short, precise, to-the-point information that is relevant for the job application. This way, the recruiter will be impressed with the resume presentation and chances are likely you may have edge over others.
1) Summary
This is the first most important part of the resume. Summary must convey your total experience (for experienced applicants) & education background for freshers in terms of years, areas of your work experience/industry, major successes and core areas of strength or skills. This should not be more than 3-6 sentences depending on the experience you carry. This must convey if there is 'content' in you for the job you are applying.
2) Address - Do not make a mention of the Door no, Street or Lane No. No recruiter would be interested in these details. This is one of the common errors committed. However, make a mention of your city against your current job is important. Even avoid making a mention of your Father Name, 'Date of Birth'.
3) Avoid details - 'Avoid beating around the bush'. The resume needs to be as much clear & precise as possible. The more clear & precise we are in the resume presentation, chances are that the interviewer reposes more confidence in us. This reflects our presentation skills too.
Avoid making a mention of your designation, company, 'From' & 'To' date of your work experience in different lines. See for example below - notice how the applicant has placed his designation, Company & the term.

Often applicants make a mention as 'Member of Winning Cricket Team' or Chess player. It is important to note here is that recruiter is spending his money to find someone who can run & grow his business! Hence, it would not matter to him if the applicant has cricket or chess or guitar playing skills. He is more interested in the applicant's skills & how relevant he is to the job.
Do not make a mention of Microsoft Excel or Word as your skill. Rather, if you have good 'Advanced Excel Skills' you could make a mention of the same. Having Microsoft Excel or Word as a skill is very much expected of any applicant.
'Hard Working & quick learner' - Never make a mention about these in the resume as these are very much expected of any applicant
5) Skills - The skills in the resume must be tuned to the required skill set for the job you are applying.
6) Spelling Errors - Make sure to avoid committing any spelling errors. Run through the resume completely. There are recruiters who reject resume if they find any spelling errors, irrespective of how good the applicant is for the job.
7) Choose the right font & size - Make sure of the consistency of the font & size. Suggested font - Calibri & font size being '12'
8) Before sending the resume, save it in the name of "Resume_FirstName_SecondName" & send it in PDF format. Avoid sending the resume in word document format
There are several resume templates on job portals like Naukri, Indeed & other websites. Make sure to go through some of them before finalising one.
Last but not the least, make sure to run it past through another person who can help you identify any errors & improvements.
All the best!

Good one. Very informative.
